Veritude is hiring for a SQL Engineer at Fidelity Investments in Boston, MA Or Durham, NC. This role is ideal for someone who has already acquired strong software development (back-end Java, Python) and data manipulation skills (sophisticated SQL, ETL) in the past and would like to move into Big Data world.

Once joining the team you will become a member of a fast-paced engineering team focused on designing and implementing large-scale distributed data processing systems using cutting edge cloud based open source and proprietary big data technologies. In this role, you will implement a variety of solutions to ingest data into, process data within, and expose data from a Data Lake that enables our data analysts and scientists to explore data in the ad-hoc manner as well as quickly implement data-driven models that generate accurate insights in an automated fashion. This position is a critical element to delivering Fidelity’s promise of creating the best customer experiences in financial services.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technology related field (e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, etc.) required.
  • 3+ years of hand on experience in designing and writing complex SQL queries that implement sophisticated business requirements.
  • Candidate must be able to demonstrate past participation in projects that involved complex data transformation logic from the requirement gathering stage to query implementation and debugging.
  • 2+ years experience with implementing back-end logic in a Linux-based environment using python as the programming language.
  • 2+ years of experience with Java, must be proficient in debugging Java code.
  • Experience working with multiple different database engines is a plus.
  • Using Big Data in various technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Impala, etc); debugging, identifying performance bottlenecks and fine-tuning those frameworks is a plus.
  • Experience in developing data applications in Cloud (AWS) is a plus.
  • Experience and comfort executing projects in Agile environments (Kanban or Scrum).
